If you want to be even more cynical you could say they are all limited versions of Safari. There are valid security concerns for why Apple does this but I would love more choices as a developer.

Which valid security concerns?

Oh what I’d give for a real Firefox browser on iOS. I see lots of value in preventing chrome based browser from running through as they already dominate and shape the web too much as it is.

The changes that would permit Firefox on iOS will make Chrome’s dominance worse.

Losing iOS users is the only reason we don’t have “only works in Chrome” everywhere.

This statement does seem a little ironic coming from a browser which is Chrome with a different design.

I think so too. Talking about monopoly and then participating in advancing a de-facto monopoly (Chromium on Android and Chromium on Windows)

And most browsers on other platforms are just Chrome with different design.

I wouldn't be mad if all browsers were Chromium powered. Then I can stop doing so many browser CSS/JS hacks.

What kind of stuff are you doing that you need many CSS/JS hacks nowadays?

It's kind of funny hearing this from Brave which is Chrome with a different design. I'm guessing Brave, Vivaldi, Edge, Opera GX, Orion, Sigma OS, Arc all consider themselves to have differentiated themselves from Chrome despite being Chrome under the hood. If Webkit === Safari then is Blink === Chrome? Do people actually want alternative browser engines or do folks just want all iOS browsers to be backed by Chromium?

'hearing this from Brave' -- this is a community post on the Brave forums, and doesn't even seem to be from an employee of Brave.

edit:

Also, Orion is WebKit based

Earlier quoted context omitted.

Yes that’s correct. What I’m saying is I don’t think chrome based browsers should come to iOS (brave, chrome)

Why would you prevent others from choosing the browser they use?

Allowing choice is good. All that is going to happen though is chrome will take over on iOS.
