I don't remember reading an exchange like this on HN ever. Either I wasn't paying attention enough or it's just demographic changing? I don't want to start an argument with either of you but it's painful to see US literally being split in half, even when you watch a movie, you can reasonably guess which side the filmmaker is standing depending on the story, narrative, and perhaps the ending. Same for any other outlet…

I don't like being insulted and respond in kind. Tit-for-tat is a very effective game theory strategy.

Sure, if you presume organic propaganda is analogous to the level of danger driving within limit. But a car going into a stroller at 150mph versus 200mph is negligible. The democratization of generative AI would increase the number of bad agents, but with it would come a better awareness of their tactics; perhaps we push less strollers into the intersections known for drag racing.

I'm old enough to remember GPT-2, which they didn't release because they "wanted to set a precedent" for safety and responsibility. GPT-2 wasn't marketable. They were mocked for it, even. So it is, in fact, up for debate. So is much of the rest, that I care about.
