This describes much of Hollywood's output for at least the last 10 years, probably a lot longer. You'd expect removing or lowering the barriers to entry & the cost would result in an explosion of content - there will be a curation problem, but the quality of storytelling will not automatically be worse than the current state.

Useful generative AI is only possible by the same collection of copyrighted material previously deemed illegal. I imagine a model trained solely on material explicitly marked for AI use would be significantly worse.

There are ways around this. You could use a negative prompt of "empty, two-dimensional" to generate a story with more depth.

Generative AI is computational plagiarism of diffuse - but still copyrighted, sources.
