It certainly sounds like you are posting to HN primarily for promotion of your own site and that the system is correctly preventing you from doing so. Hi nkurz! Thank you for your concern, but I want to clarify that my intention is not to promote my site. I just want to get feedback on anything that could be improved on my site and see if any user experience can be improved. I apologize if my post caused any misunderstanding. I'm here to engage in conversations in HN and share information with you all.

It's not clear to me how you wanting feedback on your site helps the rest of the HN community---it feels a lot like promotion to me. But if you want to proceed, you should heed the other suggestion in the guidelines: "Please don't post on HN to ask or tell us something. Send it to hn@ycombinator.com." Dan is generally responsive, although the response might not be the one you want.

There are karma thresholds that unlock certain features, an example being able to downvote a comment. There might be some mechanism in place that prevents new (or not active yet) users from submitting URLs. You had no prior comments or submissions here and also had not gained any karma yet.
