My previous comment was not as informed as it should have been (because I opined after only read the title... a mistake, to be sure). I've edited it and will leave it at this being a very unfortunate situation to be in.

Completely agree with this. If it's your "life's work" - "free tier" storage is 100% not the place to put it.

update: Not Free but feels like taking advantage of enterprise storage (0.07 $/TB) close to free.

Not only that but they actually provide real support. I once complained on Twitter that I was having trouble with an EKS issue, and the product manager for EKS reached out to me directly, put me in contact with one of their engineers, and then they discovered an issue and rolled out a fix for it that day. In a separate incident, I couldn't get GCP to read the verification data for a domain from their webmaster tools…

It's not support if you have to complain on a public forum though.

This is one of the reasons i dont like cloud. I only use it for (encrypted) backups and temporary sharing. Not for important stuff. Also i dont want my account or data to be randomly deleted due to vague terms and conditions or policies.

If it's Google Cloud you are talking about, then cheap as in cheap quality, yes. Cheap as in low price, no.

So, it’s like one of the ones that falsely advertises 1TB of capacity, but only can store 32MB before it starts eating data.

Crisis (!?) is a bit dramatic. Google response isn't correct but everyone here has there hands a bit dirty. Storing 237 Tb on an unlimited server - the individual clearly knew they were taking advantage of a system and probably should have been ready for some kind of remedy.

I heralded this warning to many people before - doing business with Google is a liability.

Every company I've ever had any pull in, using Gsuite or GCP was marked as a risk in the risk register, and mitigations were put in place to manage that risk.

There was that time in 2013, that I leaked my AWS key and a "hacker" ran up a $3500 bill running Litecoin mining[0]. Not only was the support excellent and forgave the debt, Werner Vogel (AWS CTO) popped into the HN thread[1] and offered to help -- I got to email him and tell him his people were already on top of it.

And yes, they have made their money back off me in the 10 years since (average $100-200 a month).

Their abysmal user support is the number one complaint. How the f*ck didn't they wake up to this issue by now.

I think they are in dire need of a leadership change. If they want to serve businesses, they need to adopt actual business practices.
