chess engines are good enough to be effectively solved compared to human play, so not really more than chess tournaments.

for those not getting what is "Othello" - it is also called Reversi

If you've played only Reversi the Othello variant may have some differences. Mainly, the starting board already has some pieces on it. The general gameplay and goal is maintained though.

The person you're responding to wasn't the one that said it was "trivia" (much less trivial). I don't think anyone was saying it's easy, just that they didn't think it was very useful to know.

The post I'm replying to said:

How is that not saying it's trivial when the context is a thread mentioning that Checkers has already been solved.

The sentence certainly sounds arrogant, but I have seen such phrasing used also by novice authors who were simply trying to sell a result that they were enthusiastic about. Like the present article's author, these were always non-native speakers.
