I used Edge 2 for some time as a replacement for Chrome; I dumped Edge for Firefox once it became a hostile experience. The AI integration is what put me off completely.
That's fair enough. I'm personally a Firefox user and I suggest my friends use it too.
Otherwise I would've reverted back to Google Chrome.

This is the worst answer. Office for Mac is horrible compared to the same for Windows, as is plenty of other very common software - if it runs on Mac at all. It's also much worse to administer from an enterprise perspective, so it's probably not supported by the wife's IT team, and if it is it probably would have some horrible software on it that makes it unusable.
Sorry, with all due respect you are the first person who has ever claimed that Office doesn't work on a Mac. In fact, Office on Mac is notorious for being BETTER than on Windows, even Microsoft employees say so themselves.
Excel doesn't even have Power Query!
Has to be pretty embarrassing for the Edge developers that something they've worked on is mostly known as a punchline or an annoyance shoved down people's throats, rather than a product that can stand and compete on its own two feet.

Windows: ads in the start menu, candy crush, hey you are trying to install chrome and I don't like that. Ubuntu: one line message in the terminal about we released thing, feel free to try it. Yeah, basically the same thing.
It's the same thing, just one company has taken it further. I realize this is a slippery slope argument, but when there are countless examples of how this slopes is slippery, I think it's a valid point of contention.

You mean the same OS where the internet settings has a (default checked) toggle box for “Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser.”?
When you set your default browser to Firefox but using the search bar in task bar opens everything in edge, that's problematic.

Microsoft probably has better data than me, but I can't imagine that that many people switch to Edge after Microsoft forcefully opens it when you try to search for a local file. Just show some fucking respect to your users, it will be worth more than the 0.003% market share you get from opening Edge when I click a pdf
My wife’s laptop just upgraded itself to windows 11 pro form 10 pro unasked & unsolicited and all prefs were changed to microsoft traps including edge being the default. Dark patterns galore. Luckily I could revert back to the previous version.
