This seems to be sugarcoating things a bit: "... we soon realized that our communication did not register with everyone and there were some users who were caught off guard and lost access to their data."

Not sure they've really helped themselves much with this one.

It's a terrible situation and we failed on many levels on this one. We will improve our process from here and conduct a more full post mortem.

I will not sugar coat this and say that failure on so many levels screams gross incompetence.

The fact that InfluxDB has been around for 9 years at this point, and raised over 100 million dollars in the process, only makes this even more baffling.
