I'm sure you know that one of the uses of intelligence is the ability to estimate things without measuring them - based on your actual experience and the quality of the model of the world that you have. Thankfully we can use it to know how to e.g. tie our shoes (without having formally studied knots), or to be able to tell intuitively that most people can't understand Quantum Mechanics, even if we haven't measured it…
Construct a limerick starting with "Employee who was from Nantucket" announcing to the employee that they are laid off. "An employee who was from Nantucket, Whose work seemed like a bucket, We regret to relay, On this unfortunate day, You're laid off, so kindly chuck it." Not sure about the second line, but I like the last line energy.
Who, confronted with work, would just duck it.

At first ChatGPT will only be a messenger delivering the news.
But soon after that, it will get trained on who to keep and who to fire, so it will make automatic suggestions that a person can review.
After a while, there won’t be a person reviewing individual cases, just overall kpis.
After that… who knows.
That's two examples in one day of GPT being bad at scansion.

It doesn't know anything at all, it just puts probable sequences of words together, for some definition of probable.
But just because the last layer outputs probabilities for tokens, doesn't mean you can't have intelligence in the layers above that. I don't think "it generates a chain of token pobabilies" is really disqualifying.
My friend always says (roughly): AI replacing a job is not proof that the AI is sentient, it's proof that that job didn't require sentience. This seems like an example of that.
