Everybody seems up in arms about this situation, but I find the whole thing hilarious. After half a decade of AI hype without many uses in the wild, we finally live at a point in history where "AI-generated Jerry Seinfeld makes transphobic joke, gets cancelled" is not an Onion headline.

#222Explanation from their Discord (more info/links below) “Earlier tonight, we started having an outage using OpenAI’s GPT-3 Davinci model, which caused the show to exhibit errant behaviors (you may have seen empty rooms cycling through). OpenAI has a less sophisticated model, Curie, that was the predecessor to Davinci. When davinci started failing, we switched over to Curie to try to keep the show running without any d…

Some human should curate it to collect those moments.
Or write an AI that does sentiment analysis on the Twitch chat, to find those moments automatically.

Honestly the "no one is laughing" punchline makes it hard for me to call this a transphobic joke. It's a transphobic-phobic joke and not gonna lie I chuckled.
The delivery is so bad, you could take it either way. However, censoring a sentence like "thinking about making a joke about how transgender people are ruining the fabric of society" is very thought-police. In itself, it says nothing, and certainly cannot be seen as hate speech.

Which probably isn't a good strategy to handle taboo topics long-term.
I'm substantially more worried about returning to a society with openly enforced taboos. I thought we had left that in the past century, but I was clearly too optimistic.

Point is, you may not like it, but merely being cancelled rather than straight up executed is why we live in the good times.
(And whatever the merits and demerits of unrestricted free speech, a machine that isn't deemed capable of personhood shouldn't get the same rights to that as a human).

I agree, but it’s ambiguous enough to be poor taste and feel uncomfortable. My first instinct is that Twitch is overreacting, but I can see why they need to be pretty draconian to avoid endless boundary-pushing from jerks.
Artists are what we call the people who push against the boundaries of majority group-speak and government mandated thinking.

#228Uncharacteristically off-topic comment from me, I guess, but when do humans get to a point where we no longer have to appeal to the lowest common denominator? How are our relationships supposed to improve if we dub anything that makes us uncomfortable as "taboo" and steer clear of it? I get that on the Internet there is a lot of anonymity (though less than there used to be) that folks tend to abuse, but at the same t…
there are actual Nazis out there who want to put people in ovens, so it's taboo to make jokes about how they may have a point.
similar thing with trans people, you mention them and trolls come out of the woodwork saying they should kill themselves.
there are a lot of horrible people and trollish behaviors online, and sometimes the only way to deal is to avoid the topic that brings it out, which kind of aligns with the objectives the trolls wanted in the first place. social media isn't making these calls as some kind of woke social engineering, they're making them to avoid a death spiral into a cesspool that destroys their business and civil society itself. Yeah, it's silly to read "AI comic canceled for transphobia", but maybe it's not just the community standards that are the issue.
"Evolution of democracy is not possible if we are not prepared to hear the other side."
"Democracy is a great institution and, therefore, it is liable to be greatly abused."

Agreed, as a society we need to increase our resilience to opinions we may find uncomfortable.
FYI, certain prominent political leaders said they’d outlaw certain minorities and make the lives of people living hell.
Personally i am not fond of seeing friends and family suffer at the hand of fascists.
@Dang, since when is paraphrasing Popper and restating the statements of people without a sliver of modification or strawmans worth flagging?
Don't you think there is a problem with abuse here?
