It would probably help if we stopped anthropomorphizing ChatGPT. It's an algorithm that consumes input and produces output. Assigning it human traits is asking for disappointment when it acts like a ML algorithm.

I think disappointment comes from the fact is acts like a ML algorithm that is specifically constrained and limited in its responses out of fear of woke backlash. That's the part that disappoints people, not the ML part.

You mean chatGPT isn’t going to revolutionize the world and take over all writing? I’m shocked. Shocked I tell you.

Maybe not all writing, but I absolutely see it take over corporate copywriting - it likely would be excellent in producing endless copy that is soulless, inoffensive, politically correct, almost entirely devoid of any meaning and perfectly reflecting whatever the current thing is, with all required buzzwords included.

Do you think it's bad? IMO it should offer help to people in their lowest moments if it can instead of convincing them that suicide might be good idea. I think given that it still should give answer but I would like to get compelling argument why such bias is bad.

I'm neither equipped nor capable to make a judgement on whether it's good or bad.

FWIW I don't personally like it. It feels like a cheap impersonal slogan thrown around that embodies the the idea of charity without work or risk. It reflects more on the speaker that wants to feel like they're doing something, and imposes an idea that wanting to genuinely die is the worst possible thing ever, when to me, there are much worse places to go then being actively suicidal.

On the other hand I'm not so foolish as to think that this would never help anyone. And if makes someone step back from the edge, perhaps it is not a waste. I don't know well enough either say with any certainty though.

Would it help convince you that I'm not a member of this strawman "woke mob" by saying I wholeheartedly agree with you on this?

As I said in another comment, I'm not coming from this as a blue partisan, but rather a leave me alone libertarian who has been reluctantly pushed into voting conservative (which in 2023 means Democrat).

Your argument here is just both sidesing "extremism" into moral relativism. In the real world, providing straightforward necessary medical care has been criminalized. This isn't hypothetical, but direct backwards-thinking oppression caused by a specific political movement, focusing on a straw man of third trimester elective abortions while writing off the collateral damage.

For this not to be a straw man, you'd need to put forth statistics about the number of third trimester elective abortions (healthy normal pregnancies with no birth defects, etc), showing it's a significant topic. And if you want to advocate for banning that specifically, then I will understand where you're coming from. But so far you've just used it as a motte and bailey to ignore the scope of what has actually been criminalized.

i dont have to use chatgppt and i can make sure that chatgpt is never be used for anything of significance. Its not writing laws or arguing in court. nor should it.
