how many times has he been called "Kanye West" in headlines and news stories in the past couple weeks? nobody gives a shit about deadnaming him, because he's a Bad Guy Saying Bad Things, which proves that there actually is a political conditional on the supposed core moral value of "deadnaming is an utterly terrible thing to do, always, and there's never any excuse for it". I've tried repeatedly to bring this up onli…

Not using a vanity name of a celebrity is not exactly the same as deadnaming. If Ye would have chosen John as his first name I could see it being similar, he obviously had a reason to change it, maybe he hates Kanye, but he choose Ye, because it sounds cool. People should still respect his decision, but it's still not the same.

> Not using a vanity name of a celebrity is not exactly the same as deadnaming. If Ye would have chosen John as his first name I could see it being similar

ok, so I don't have to respect trans peoples' "vanity" name changes if it's not something equivalent to "John", as per my own judgement? like I get to make my own internal judgement as to whether or not the name that someone asks to be referred to as is a "vanity" name or not??

or, I don't get to do this, because trans people are somehow special in this regard compared to everyone else???

you don't get to make rules like that. you can say, "if someone legally changes their name, then you should respect that and use their preferred, legal name." you can even extend that and say, "if someone wants to be referred to as some name other than their legal name, then this, too, should be respected, you should refer to them as their non-legal, yet still preferred name." that's fine too.

but you don't get to claim that someone legally changing their name and asking everyone to use their new legal name and not use their old "slave name" (their own words), is just a "celebrity" with a "vanity name", and therefore "deadnaming" rules no longer apply, somehow! this destroys your entire moral framework about identity and the right to self-determination thereof.

>"Elon doesn't actually believe in a free marketplace of ideas, he believes in ensuring views he agrees with are available." This may just be a quirk of how this sentence was written, but wouldn't ensuring agreeable views that were once removed not count towards enlarging the marketplace of ideas? It may never be totally free, but he doesn't seem to be contracting what can be in the marketplace.

It's because he's enlarging exactly one segment, his own political views. That will eventually come at the cost of others, who just don't want to deal with misogyny, transphobia, homophobia, etc. They will withdraw from the market, leaving it without those ideas and creating the same sort of insular platform, just with a different bent.

Liberal Parler wouldn't even match the viewership of MSNBC/CNN. None of them would want to be on a platform exclusively filled with people like them, because they take pride in the repetition of what authority figures have told them and have a disdain for "research," which makes them boring. More liberals watch Tucker Carlson (although I don't know how anyone can stand him) than watch any MSNBC or CNN show.

> It's because he's enlarging exactly one segment, his own political views.

We'll see, but I think that a lot of people narcissisticly project beliefs on Musk that are exactly the opposite of things that they would like to see (and did see) censored (and a lot of fanboys who do the opposite.) Neither Trump, Musk or Putin are symbols meant to equally and oppositely oppose all that you support; you actually have to look up their opinions on things to have an accurate view of the world, rather than simply assume that they designed their opinions to be the opposite of yours. They don't know you.

I mean, you don't have free speech here either. Mods will absolutely come in and remove content and ban you for many of the same things Twitter will.

Not entirely untrue, but the difference is that here, if someone posts "I really hate [group of people] and I wish they'd die" it's generally considered breaking the rules, but on twitter whether or not this statement breaks the rules depends on what group of people you targeted.

Yeah, citation needed here. If you feel that different groups are participating in the same TOS violations, but only one set of groups is experiencing consequences for it, you may want to reassess your assumption in the first clause.

Elton John was notable as Reginald Kenneth Dwight?

His career started in 1962 as RD and he legally changed his name to EJ in 1972. I think 10 years of being a reasonably famous musician under a name is notable, no?

By that logic, this is a rather impressive and notable CV, the majority of which was pre-transition:

Her previous posts included: Vice-Chair for Clinical Affairs for the Department of Pediatrics, and Chief of the Division of Adolescent Medicine and Eating Disorders at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

Great, they should have never been banned to begin with.

Fully disagree. They publicly mocked a trans person, in clear violation of the TOS that all users agree to as a condition of use of the platform. They were then temporarily suspended, as clearly laid out in the TOS. Twitter says "Hey, if X, then Y." Babylon Bee says "Yeah, ok." Babylon Bee does X, and experiences Y. They are not victims, and there is no "violation of free speech" here.

Lots of people are publicly mocked on Twitter everyday. What makes "trans" people so special?

Evidence, that basic thing that is always absent from assertions like the one above.

The evidence is plain. Observe who gets unbanned. Observe who gets to operate again. I guarantee you it won't include all ideas. Want to be a radical terror org on Twitter? Or a doxxer? Or revenge porn poster? Or a spammer? Or the klan? Skinhead neonazi group posting racist memes? Etc etc. I'm willing to bet these things stay banned. Because despite self describing as a free speech absolutist, he's really not comfort…

How can evidence from the future already be plain?

> all they had to do is delete their tweet He could've gotten a lighter sentence if he just accepted the plea deal! Do you understand how silly this sounds. Moreover, they awarded Rachael Levine "Man of the Year" as a parody because they are a parody website that is right-leaning. Of all the things you could class as so-called "transphobia" this is what you choose? They never deserved to be banned. Additionally, I ca…

I don't understand how people keep conflating First Amendment Constitutional rights with the additional layer of "this is a private platform, we prefer not to have it overrun with assholes that make it really unpleasant for everyone else." 1A rights apply to GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE in your expression. There is no "lack of free speech on Twitter," nor do they owe anyone unrestricted freedom to spread disinfo and hate…

And yet many Twitter users are acting like they are entitled to being provided a safe space away from what they consider to be "disinfo" and "hate speech" by Elon. Why is this?

It's not "absolutely true in the scientific sense", except at the "I have an understanding of high school level biology and sociology" sense. Sex and gender are both significantly more complex than just chromosomes, genitalia, or organs. If you are interested, I'm happy to dive into a good faith discussion of where the science actually falls.

Not really, no. Sex, scientifically, is determined by the kind of gametes an organism produces in sexual maturity. Males produce small sex cells, females produce large sex cells. There is no overlap among mammals (i.e. human sex is “binary”) Gender is a concept made up by feminists with no consistent definition, use mainly to confuse.

What about humans who produce no gametes? Are they sexless?
