Will he unban ISIS recruiting accounts? Will he unban Trump? Alex Jones? He's not a free speech absolutist, he's just making room for his personal ideology. He doesn't need to ban leftists to achieve his goal of pushing them off the platform.

She’s the same person!

Same ghost, different machine. Their identity is now Eliot. Probably wouldn't even be an issue to call them Ellen if we lived in a world where people weren't deliberate with their mis-identification to troll trans people, but here we are.

The problem for Musk is that Twitter never banned them for being right-wing. They were banned for undeniable, crystal-clear breaches of their terms of service. Is Musk going to allow child porn, inciteful content, doxxing ? This is an unwindable situation.

If you can't tell the difference between making fun of a public figure and child pornography, you should take a step back.

I think you're correct. The example of the Heat Death of Usenet seems relevant. If you don't trim spam and annoyances, people leave. I think Musk's Twitter will be an interesting test, if Musk allows enough unfettered speech.

Surely the truth can be hate speech. For example, a statement like “I hate X and I call on my followers to organize and commit against X” would surely be hate speech even if it’s true.

One is a statement of fact. Another is an opinion with a call to action.

It isn't.

Talking about someone's dead name is not offensive.

Referring to someone using their deadname today is. For example, saying "Ellen Page was really good in the latest season of The Umbrella Academy" is offensive because at that point, they were identifying as Elliot.

In the case of someone not being notable before a transition, talk of their deadname is offensive because it is clearly being done in bad faith. If they were transitioned before they became a notable person, why the obsession with knowing their deadname? There's really only one reason: Because you want to call them that as an "own" against transgender people.

It's very easy to say this at a high level. But once you look into the reasons behind every ban you will see the subtleties that surround this discussion. There is a reason that content moderation has been classed as the world's toughest problem.

It is indeed. But my experience from what I saw from Twitter was a clear bias towards certain... authoritarian ticks? u know. It is a private company anyway, just mentioning the had those. They could do whatever.

Just an observation :)

I hope it is more balanced from now on. Now is when we will be able to see if Elon delivers on his words.

We will see how it goes.
