We can't see the alternative world where another company or entity ended up being at the helm of the personal computer revolution. Since you mentioned the winner take all aspect that should orient the way we think about these companies.
They want to pursue such interests via FIRE so Linux would have never worked.
DEC and IBM could have been the ones
