Well I bought TWTR at it's peak... I'm voting my shares against a buyout (won't matter), mostly because it locks in a loss that I feel would have been recoverable in the next 5 years...
Have you considered opportunity cost of not using this money for other investments?

Re: Twitter CEO fires two top executives, freezes hiring
#772Just a spring cleaning that is about a decade late. Twitter under-performs in every aspect imaginable: financially, product quality, product innovation. Nothing ever gets released and whilst this pace has improved in recent years, those "innovations" don't really deliver. They're barely used, copycats from other apps, and so on. Meanwhile, age-old problems are never addressed, like bots and the extremely hostile mob…

If they introduce an edit feature people will abuse it in the following ways: * Bait and switch. Now replies to the original tweet will be out of context * Everyone will edit their tweet and put EDIT: at the end. This is what happens on Reddit.
The edit button would only be available for say 5 minutes after posting. Would show that it was edited with a history available to see what was changed. And according to Musk, could reset the like / retweets on it.

People have kept asking this question for the past 12 years. Meanwhile my TSLA shares bought in 2013 have been doing just fine.
Your shares did well in of the biggest untinerrupted market bull runs in history????
Since mid-2013, the S&P 500 is up ~150%, Nasdaq is up ~300%, and TSLA is up 3290%.

#775I've been using Twitter since it's main novelty was that it was a successful Ruby on Rails app, and honestly I've been trying to figure out where the exit is for my personal use of Twitter lately. If the acquisition goes through, Twitter won't make enough money to service it's debt, and the things they will do to fix that are pretty much guaranteed to lower the quality of the platform, which frankly has never worked…
How much of the DAU do you think is bot driven? I suspect it's larger than a publicly traded stock company is willing to admit and that some of that cesspool rhetoric is Aktive Measures to provoke unrest. Perhaps taking Twitter private and removing the chorus of machines will actually make it a more pleasant experience. Content Mod is never easy but expunging the bot armies is a big first step.
Researchers identify bots by anomalous clustering behavior - there's probably some human accounts in there, but bots follow bots because they're a quorum which is optimized for "followers" in order to try and lure in real human users.
But AFAIK there's no data from Twitter (for obvious reasons) on whether suspected bot accounts have ad-revenue activity: and they might. If a crackdown happens the first defense mechanism will be for bot operators to add more human mimic activity.
I suspect at the moment they probably don't - after all why do more work - though conversely this is the sort of thing I personally would implement if I was trying to stay ahead of anti-botting measures.

generally curious, what are some examples of disgusting things legal under US law (I'm not a content moderator)?
Although banned in most states, sexual abuse of animals isn't prohibited by federal law. Animated depictions of humans having sex with animals is (probably) legal. Saying "I hope someone kills misiti3780" is legal. Saying "Next year I will drive to misiti3780's house at and kill them and their family " is (probably) legal.
i weirdly dont care about hypothetical death threats as much.

Tens of millions is only "pretty close to financial security". Wow.
Most people spend proportionally to what they earn, so I don't see why one year salary should necessarily provide the lifetime of financial security, regardless of what that salary is.

#778It would be wise for Musk to rehire him.

#779> I’m just now learning that Parag fired Kayvon while he was on paternity leave, which is truly awful. > Parag is on his way out too. Why is he firing his product leaders during his lame-duck period? https://twitter.com/CaseyNewton/status/1524790595968901122
I've seen normal employees take such leave, only return to find others have taken over their work, and by all means they are no longer needed and they have start working their way into the team all over again.
Paternity leave is more or less a kind of paid short term temporary severance already. Sometimes the company does make it permanent.
If you are gone for weeks/months and no one feels any difference, then sometimes its an indication you were never needed at the first place.

Saying teaching a child progressive values is similar to teaching a child to be vulnerable to sexual abuse is accusing progressives of being like sexual abusers of children. That's hateful. (I deliberely didn't say hate speech)
teaching a child progressive values We aren’t talking about lectures extolling high marginal rates. Some parents object to exposing children to inappropriate sexual themes for the purpose of conditioning them to accept the same as normal, i.e. grooming.
