Apart from the shitty first link which happened almost 10 years ago and I still regret/think about - I don't think I am making it a worse place. There's a lot of incorrect and biased narratives all over the internet where user-submitted content is allowed. Does it make it any worse than any other user-submitted content? I don't think so. Do I care? Kind of, that's why I posted this.

There's a lot of misunderstanding of the word karma. This "I still regret/think about" you are referring to is actually one of the true natures of karma. Your actions have an affect, often or especially on yourself. Sorry if that all sounds preachy, but it's something to reflect on. Often it's just not worth it, and it turns out sometimes that you're only hurting yourself.

I don't see much value in accumulation of karma points in the user account. It can be used to decide what makes it to the front page or how comments get ordered... but beyond that, why should it have any more value? It just incentivises karma hoarders to lie.

This thread is very disturbing. It reminds me of that (white) Republican operative who pretended to be black on Twitter to muster support for Trump. He was found out when he forgot to switch accounts one day and his profile pic was that of a bald white guy.

But thanks for telling us. In the future I will refer to people using unverifiable claims about themselves to further an agenda as "Mandatuming". Trolls like you make it impossible to trust people online.

This is extremely common among young teens, who are struggling to get accepted and see lying as a quick workaround. I think of it as a crutch for easing the growing pains, something that is abandoned as one matures because it becomes less gratifying.

Kids have lied in all generations to gain respect, the Internet only makes it easier to lie to strangers. There's a problem underneath when lying stays in adulthood, though.

What's interesting is that you admitted to doing it and actually questioned yourself, that shows growth.

There's a social network where people not only lie, they are required to do so and the best liars are awarded. It's called LinkedIn.
