Apple events used to be something I really looked forward too but they are kind of boring now. The hype they give in their events is starting to feel almost a parody of itself. I don't know, I can't put my finger on it, but for me the magic is gone and they should just announce at CES along with everyone else.

Computers are boring now: Everything is thin and flat or in the cloud. Thermals are solved (if you pay enough). Speed and storage growth is nice, but not fun.

Also, with Coronavirus, there's no live crowd energy or guest artists/creators. And with Steve Jobs gone, there's no personality on top and no underling willing to show personality.

I never encountered it. When I lift my phone, it's already lit and once my face is positioned with the camera - it gets unlocked.

There's no way Intel did for their CPUs, it'd be on their roadmap. They're not going to say "oh here's a new uarch" out of nowhere. Like, the Sapphire Rapids CPUs are all being sold about now to the corporate accounts. Maybe their GPUs that they keep teasing but even that's a stretch, IMO.

Last year I built one for slightly over $2k with a 5950x, 128GB ram, 1TB ssd and a RTX 3080 graphics card. That would get you in the ballpark.

Obviously we need to wait for people to get their hands on the Ultra and do some real benchmarks, but if we take Apple's claims at face value (which seems reasonable since the original M1 held up well to real-world benchmarks), then:

M1 Ultra has 90% better performance than the "fastest 16-core PC desktop chip available", which is probably the 5950X.

M1 Ultra has better performance than the "highest end discrete GPU available" (probably the Radeon RX 6900 XT?) while using 1/3 the power.

So I'm not exactly sure I'd call your build same ballpark, and I also can't imagine it was only slightly over $2k given that the CPU[1] and GPU[2] you specified alone cost $2200 on a good day...

Does the new $4,000 computer allow you to do things that cannot be done on an M1 Mac Mini that costs $699? Or does it just make those things faster? I'm not a video expert so honestly don't know.

You can't look at your phone for a nano-second while driving? If still no, then here are your alternates you can explore -

1. Setup an alternate appearance: like side pose

2. Turn off "Require Attention for Face ID"

I mean, this is why you don't take rumors as gospel. Those Intel data center chips would be actively being sold right now to the datacenter vendors and they haven't announced anything other than the fact that Sapphire Rapids is going to be Intel 7 still. Everything they've announced on their CPU roadmap since that article came out has been stating that they're staying on Intel's foundry for the moment, and certainly not switching for the timeframe of the early mass production slots on N3 (early fall).
