Wow $4k is pretty crazy. I'm not saying it's a bad deal, just that it's enough to make someone think "do I really need this". I can build a powerhouse PC for $2k.
What $2k PC are you gonna build with anywhere near the performance of the Mac Studio with M1 Ultra?

Why not?
Face ID is a step back in usability for most cases, since you have to be looking at your phone to unlock it. Doesn’t work if you’re in the car and need to unlock for CarPlay, doesn’t work if someone else needs to change music, doesn’t work if the phone’s in your pocket and you want Siri to continue telling you privileged info. They just solved masks (in beta), but that still doesn’t work for Apple Pay or app authenti…

I saw it more as a modern reincarnation of the G4 Cube.
I don't want to say anything negative about this new Studio computer (I'd buy it without hesitation if I was buying a new computer), but it certainly doesn't have anything close to the visual appeal of the original G4 Cube - back when the Cube came out.

#284God damn that M1 ULTRA is a beast on paper for the power consumption. It’s what we expected but still I can’t wait to see real world numbers. Edit: and god damn again at it being in something as small as the new Mac Studio. Interested in price... Edit 2: $1999 for the base Mac Studio with M1 MAX. $3999 for the base M1 ULTRA model.
Nice chip. Its only problem is that you pretty much have to run macOS on it.

IIRCGoogle Pixel 5a, had the same camera as the more expensive Pixel. The SE with it's fingerprint unlock looks very nice, but the camera is a bit of a deal breaker. It's one thing I don't like about my iPhone 13mini.
Pixel #a series also are simless. The iPhone SE requires a sim card unfortunately.

This is... such a weird take to me. Imagine you are a developer who are going to talk about a product you worked on, and you are aware that millions of people[1] are going to watch you present. You're telling me you wouldn't want to do everything in your power to be well-rehearsed? You wouldn't try to do things like learn how to stand still or not stutter? Like, that is just... I absolutely cannot comprehend that you…
I imagine the post you're replying to means that they don't want a presentation to look too planned and staged (which feels insincere). Of course you want to practice, but you want to make it look natural and effortless at the same time. Like a stand-up comedian who makes it sound like he's telling an anecdote (that just happened to come to mind) for the first time, even though he's told it a million times on stage b…

#287I realize this is totally off-topic, but has anyone else noticed how wide-stanced all of the presenters have been? Like your legs don’t stand that far apart normally; the announcer right now seems to literally need to constantly shift her legs to keep her standing stance so wide. I’ve noticed this a couple of other places too; is some body coach teaching the weirdest crap out in California right now?
Every jourinalist know this trick. It makes you stand still and don’t wiggle left and right, which just look bad.

When I see a presentation so well trained and rehearsed, I am also put off. It's such overt manipulation of my monkey brain.

You should not be memorizing your exact lines and intonation, unless you are an excellent actor (Which you aren't, because you are a developer). It's creepy and robotic, and people know you are lying when you are barking words someone else wrote for you, that you don't understand or believe yourself.

#289Did Apple just imply that buying a faster processor from them levels the playing field for underrepresented minorities? Did anybody else hear this or am I hallucinating?
Did Apple just imply that buying a faster processor from them levels the playing field for underrepresented minorities? In the context of a $4000 Mac Studio with something like FinalCut Pro allows them similar creative power that the inaccessible, siloed $10,000 workstations. You're much more likely to see a Mac Studio in a school, library or computer lab where underrepresented people live. I had a gig a few years ag…

#290The new iPhone SE looks like a really solid phone. The only thing it doesn't really have compared to the 13 is the better camera and the larger form factor / fancier screen tech. And weirdly there doesn't seem to be much in the Android world at that price point anymore.
