The only two of those I’m pretty sure could survive on their own is search and YouTube. Android and Chrome pretty much doesn’t have a business case. GCP might be big enough at this point, but is still just burning ad money. GSuite/GMail is again a maybe, but can it afford the infratructure? They would at least have to cribble the free tier.
Android has its Play Store and could probably pick a few bucks out of each handset sold, although the long term implications of Android without its daddy around aren’t clear. GSuite is incredibly ubiquitous and has no free tier anymore (other than customers grandfathered in), and GMail can still do ads. I have no doubt they’ll be printing money, relatively speaking.
Technically GSuite is Google Workspace, which doesn’t have a free tier, but Gmail, Google Docs, Drive and so on can still be used for free.
It would be interesting to know how much of Gmail value is standalone ads, and how much is from the integration into Google overall ad platform.

Their competitors knew this was happening. It's pretty easy to see occurring when you run a system that competes in Google header bidding for a publisher you also control.

Everyone needs time to grow up. I too started out thinking it was all so simple and the "free market" would take care of everything etc. Then your world view grows. Your list of "known unknowns" dwarfs your list of knowns. You become more pragmatic. It is clear to me now that some level of top-down coordination is necessary for success. Free market is still a good idea, it's just not enough. What's missing is that we somehow need to ensure all market actors are at most 2-3 orders of magnitude in size/power of each other.
Google (and other FAANG type companies) are becoming comfortable in power to whole states. The "free" market just becomes a tyranny of the powerful in this situation.

A court case brought by a corrupt, indicted attorney general whose own senior staff publicly accused him of more corruption last year before he fired them.

In a world where R&D is now often dwarfed by ad spend it is really a threat to progress.
So what? Humans also spend almost 400 billion a year on cosmetics. Progress is being made anyway. Obviously the ad spend brings some value to those companies.

Since google is as a publicly traded company, they are under enormous pressure to produce steady growth figures, just to please the stock market. Sure that survival has priority over playing it nice.
