Don’t do that: it kept making purchases because it didn’t receive the ink as fast as it expected due to supply chain issues. It took a long time for Canon to cancel the orders that had never left the factory and give our hundreds of dollars back.

My HP inkjet will not print any color or black if the “photo black” cartridge is removed. I consider this a similar “greed move” by HP.

It’s a slight improvement over my last fridge which used DRM to make sure I only used their (way more expensive) branded filters.
Do Canon printers in the EU have this problem? I would think customers would be able to return them as defective.

After having 5 broken printers in the garage I said enough, that is a useless waste, and invested some money in a mid range laser printer (only b/w, but I don't need to print in color anyway) that doesn't give me any problem, and with a toner that costs 10$ on Amazon (not original, but who cares?) I print 2000 pages. That means that in 5 years that I own it I only changed it 2 times.
I really don't see a reason for inkjet printers to exist, I hope they will disappear from the market.
