#145Reddit to me feels very undervalued. As witnessed by the GameStop saga and previously through the influence of r/D_T, Reddit has tremendous influence on modern society and shapes a lot of our narratives. They should be valued way over $6bn

Could you not argue that HN is the same thing, just at a smaller scale? HN is essentially just a front page.
Reddit just doesn't tailor itself to one particular type of discussion like HN does. But rather the dominant topics of discussion such as /r/funny frequently dominate the front page due to popularity.
Reddit is really what you make of it and if you only subscribe to topics that interest you, it becomes a vastly different experience than what a default account would be subjected to.

I think the app works great. And the conversations are usually pretty good too as long as each side is willing to be civil. Particularly in my local city/community subs. For example, my local city sub is like NextDoor only without the nut jobs and constant "my Pitbull got loose in the park again" posts.
My city sub is full of alt right trolls.
That's weird... All the geo-related subs for my country are full of angsty socialist children or camped and permanently set to private.

#149Most Reddit readers worth real advertising $ use ad blockers of one kind or another. I’m happy for the Reddit team, and hope they’re able to make a responsible revenue stream out of the fundraise.
They're monetizing the app and forcing mobile users onto it. The desktop site is just a way for them to acquire mobile users.
I'm curious, what makes the mobile app easier to monetize than their mobile web version? I get that push notifications can help bring people back, but other than that what benefit do they get by forcing people from web to native?
