The author theorizes that this ban will inflame tensions, but I don't believe that's true. Look at Reddit's ban on toxic subreddits. They found that banning toxic subreddits reduced the toxicity in the website as a whole, and that "post-ban, hate speech by the same users was reduced by as much as 80-90 percent." Reddit seems pretty damn toxic to me.

This in no way compares to what reddit is doing. There is nothing “toxic” or hateful about what they have already been applying this ban to. They have already been removing videos that are not partisan and not fake news. Merely being intellectually curious or examining various issues related to the election, even if they ultimately do not conclude that there was fraud, are being removed. It’s fucking ridiculous.

That only works if the people who are banned are fringe minority nobodies. We’re talking about banning the President of the United States, who although he lost just won 5 million more votes than Obama in 2008. This ends with further destruction of trust in elites, fracturing the media ecosystem, and opportunistic competitors arising. The idea that gatekeepers need to withhold information from people so they believe t…

Is litigation supposed to be a indicator of legitimacy or something? Anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason. In addition, most (all?) of the lawusits being dismissed without trial , which suggests they were rubbish to begin with.

You are trying to intentionally muddy the waters here. Vaccines, masks and who won the election are not "sweeping opinions you don't like". People have actually died due to the anti-vaxx movement, leading to +50% Measle deaths in 2019. These are hard facts and these decisions are a matter of life or death. No one is blocking opinions. Trump has failed to prove election fraud in over 50 cases so far, and the safe harb…
Im not intentionally muddying anything he mentioned reddit. That was a ban of hate speech specifically, not anything to do with masks, elections, or anything you mentioned. I agree with others about radicalization and slowing the spread of misinformation but it's a fine line to walk and throwing around reddits bullshit like it will work for real life scenarios isnt going to help anything. Deplatforming legitimizes an…
So no, they were not banned for "sweeping opinions you don't agree with" either.

#495The idea that banning certain information will somehow result in it disappearing has been shown repeatedly to not work. A cursory reading of history should make this clear. You cannot turn the entire world into West Coast USA by banning everyone that disagrees with you. You’ll only create further echo chambers, both on your own platform and on the (new) platforms inevitably created by the exiled.

#496"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." -Isaac Asimov or more to the point "Reality has a well-known liberal bias" - Colbert You're not entitled to be heard.…
> Reality has a well-known liberal bias Except when it comes to nuclear, GMO, gender science, nature vs nurture, I'm sure there are other things I'm not remembering right now.
These topics, to be charitable, are heavily debated in biology and sociology, at least to some degree - look up "nature nurture" on Google Scholar and you'll find as much scientific debate, and recently attempts to transcend the debate, as you could read in two lifetimes. I don't think most "liberals" are even opposed to nuclear and GMO.

No, they should not be forced. However, YouTube should be shamed for the bans, and everyone should be encouraged to think worse of them for it.
I think YouTube should be applauded for protecting democracy. Why do you think they should be shamed for doing this?

No, it's a ban on baseless claims of massive electoral fraud. Coverage of the President is still allowed.
I have absolutely no idea why you reference Obama in this.
Yes, there's still active litigation. But there is yet to be any notable evidence of anything approaching serious, let alone widespread, wholesale electoral fraud.

I am sure you are able to grasp the essence of what @rayiner is trying to say.

> Should I be forced to pay for public schools if I don't have kids or disagree with what they are being taught? Yes you should. An informed populace is the basis of democracy. If you choose to continue living in a democracy, you have to help pay for its upkeep.
I hardly imagine that a government can really be held to account by its citizens if it also takes for itself the role of educate their children.
