I have been using the device with my own build of LineageOS 16.0. It's an Android-Linux OS but it has a custom Linux kernel where I have been customizing the keyboard driver. There are a few blobs in there but it's not too bad. Reception and sound quality have been totally fine with no complaints.

Those are the dumbed down options for plain users. Power users just disable the Telemetry service. Start > Run > services.msc. Right-click on "Collected User Experiences and Telemetry". As pointed out by others, if the quote is correct then Apple is using 700MB not 175MB

Yea, I and several other people kind of blindly assumed they used 50% wrong after reading.

An iPhone with Apple's Safari browser open in the background transmits only about a tenth of that amount to Apple, according to the complaint.

But, you could be right.
