Keep dreaming. Electrons interact with each other, photons don't.

> Intel has clearly been caught out by its inability to get 10nm - which I understand was overambitious - to work and pretty much everything else follows on from there. It's more than process node. Zen 3 now has superior IPC as well; the now unqualified performance lead of AMD devices happens at lower frequency. The process node problem is just the most visible and embarrassing problem Intel has. It is not the only p…
> The one area that Intel has managed to maintain superiority is quality. There are lots deliverables, and thus lots of things that can have superior quality I guess. But my recent experience has been the reverse of yours. Intel's early WiFi modules on a CPU board were so bad I was forced to buy a go down the suck it and see path, but a whole pile of them from various manufacturers on EBay, build a room of 60 machine…
Re: Intel’s palpable desperation on display with Rocket Lake
#283Is there good coverage of how Intel became so uncompetitive? My instinct is to say this is just the natural result of the presence of MBAs who are trained to focus _exclusively_ on this quarter's results so ignore R&D investment and also shit on employees by doing gimmicks like hotdesking to pinch pennies. I'm willing to bet my intuition is wrong, especially given my extremely deep bias against MBAs and 'this quarter…
The CEO is, literally, one of these MBA types and he has recursively applied this thinking throughout the whole organization.

For me the overly agressive tone was detrimental while reading the article. I kept thinking: "Is this really necessary?" It reminds me of the rethoric that we've seen in politics in the last four years.
Your reaction reminds me of what Aamer Rahman describes at 2 minute mark in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKICKcMU3MU Just a reminder. Intel bribed, intimidated and blackmailed hardware manufacturers to alienate AMD while AMD was offering better product. Intel was fined record 1 Billion Euro. Intel hasnt paid a single cent of that fine to this day. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-eu-intel-antitrust/in…

If I were made of photons it wouldn't be able to!
[But seriously, the green light of a standard green laser pointer is generated from the non-linear interaction of pairs of 1064nm photons.]

Of course it would: It's coherent light! [But seriously, the green light of a standard green laser pointer is generated from the non-linear interaction of pairs of 1064nm photons.]
Um, no. It is caused by stimulated emission in the lasing medium, when electrons drop from a higher to lower energy level. Pairs of photons do not interact with each other.

In rare situations you might have an ion or an entire atom changing energy levels. But never just a photon.

If you don't believe that photons are bosons I don't think we're going to get anywhere with this discussion...

In a typical green laser pointer a 1064nm light is produced via ordinary laser mechanisms, then 1064nm light is upconverted in a non-linear medium to 523nm.

Yes, in a medium. You also don't see a lot of conventional computers constructed without semiconductors. :)

Because you can focus on more than one thing? Focusing on one of these naturally excludes the other.
You can have more than one priority, even though you can't have more than one TOP priority.
