Because, in essence, they get servitude from far more of those foreign hires than they do from the locals who can confidently exercise their rights.

This is a blatantly rude and insulting thing to say. (It's kind of sad how these xenophobic comments are common here.) > they get servitude Never has this been true about me, or the people I know. I've left jobs I disliked, and taken up new jobs. Also, in case you were unaware: yes, we can change jobs. And, yes, there's paperwork to be filed to do so, but the majority of tech companies are willing to do it. The solut…

I hate to break it to you but I'm not an American.

You've responded in bad faith with nothing but nonsense and wildly untrue accusations.

Also, I am very familiar with H1Bs and their application, as well as the companies that use them. Your anecdote isn't data.

Every country should be looking out for their citizens first and foremost. Not increasing the profit margins of corporations.

You're not entitled to live in a different country just because you want to.

Most of the companies you speak of are multi-national companies providing their services world-wide, why should google, a service that is offered to the whole world ONLY have employees who're born in America, while their service is used across the world? Lets be honest, a country's wealth is determined by how widespread the customer base is for the goods and services that originate within it. Economies of a majority…

Nothing is stopping Google from being an international company headquartered in France. France has a lot of social welfare rules that dictate a safety net for it’s own citizens such that every company in their realm must adhere to if they want to benefit from everything France has to offer. America has a lot to offer, and part of the tax is you must support American workers first. If India and China is the better pla…

> If India and China is the better place to work, better salaries, better consumer market, better infrastructure, better freedoms, better everything - feel free to operate from those places and respect the offerings of the people of that country, and please, put them first.

Believe me, this is precisely what has been happening, and now it's only going to be accelerated. You'll get your wish sooner than you expected.

If you are a social darwinist, I am not here to convert you.

This seems like a bow out and still I have no answer, just an assumption. So once again, what benefit does humanity have for decreasing poverty instead of the country decreasing it themselves?

I do not owe you answers, but I can continue a conversation if you pay me.

Here's the problem: you cannot guarantee equal outcomes across intersectional groups. Period. Not going to happen. A hundred years of psychometric research backs this up; there are simply differences that cannot be papered over by adjusting metrics and applying equalizing coefficients. A highly effective education system that really gets the best out of every person involved is also going to be selective, it is going…

In short, you're claiming that some races or genders are inherently more capable than others, independent of all 'nurture' factors? If so, you're wrong, but feel free to clarify what "hundred years of psychometric research" you're referring to.

How about you show me an IQ study with a big cohort that shows otherwise? You're the one asserting something that doesn't line up with anyone's experience with zero proof.

No we are claiming that we need $4309582309239 extra spending on the Governor's wife's tennis partners' baker's niece's program to totally-not-put-all-those-dollars-back-into-the-governors-electoral-budget.

That will fix it.

What I mean to say is that 99.9% of those programs are just abusing the system (even if 10% of them started out with honest intentions).

Whether you're American or not is irrelevant. Your comments make it amply clear that you're a xenophobic bigot.

And, yes, actually I feel more than 100% entitled to live in a country that has been my home for my entire adult life. I don't care if xenophobic bigots like you don't. I also support how most undocumented immigrants feel -- that they have a right to be here, and that they belong here. I condemn your miserable, nationalistic, bigoted, hateful, xenophobic and insulting attitude towards the right of people to live where they chose. Screw your attitude, and hopefully once Democrats fully win, both myself along with millions of other undocumented folks will be able to reside without being hated on.

There’s nothing illegal going on here. I posted earlier that I was at an oil and gas company in Houston, a Fortune 10 company at the time. We had IT contractors from Larsen and Toubro. As an example, one guy who reported to me was paid < $20 an hour after L&TI and another contracting company in the middle took their cut. He wasn’t thrilled with that situation but his other option was to quit and go back to India. The…

> The worst part was I couldn’t hire him directly because of his contract. He wasn’t allowed to quit and directly work for us. How so? Presumably he signed his contract in India - how would his company enforce it?

My company has a clause that we can’t hire people from this company for 9 months. If he waits around 9 months he’ll have to leave the country wayyyy before that.

Your comments are clearly out of line. @dang @sctb

> xenophobia: dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries.

Do explain how my comment was xenophobic and how i am a xenophobic bigot?

> Whether you're American or not is irrelevant

It clearly is very relevant. I have no skin in the game when it comes to deciding whether you should be allowed live in America.

Countries have borders whereby the people inside those borders get to decide the laws of their country. The successes and failures, and targets for quality of life & culture for those people is determined, for the most part, by those people.

> once Democrats fully win, both myself along with millions of other undocumented folks will be able to reside without being hated on.

I hate to break it to you but American Democrats are just politicians just like all the other politicians. Most of their policies and views (as and from Clintons reign) would be considered conservative & regressive for the most part in most other Western countries.

> towards the right of people to live where they chose

That is not a right. It is a privilege when you're not "of the land". Borders exist for a reason.

Just because you want in doesn't mean you should get in.

I will not be engaging further with you as you are commenting hatefully and irrationally.

This is not a correct reading of what I wrote. Investing in local (or at least domestic) employment pipelines at all is not philanthropy. Seeing it as philanthropy is patronizing. Let's just have a thought experiment (maybe we'll see what happens if the ban continues) - what will Big Tech do if H1B is not a thing anymore? Second thought experiment - who benefits most from H1B? First of all, the H1B holders themselves…

How is it not philanthropy when there are already skilled workers they could hire right now ?

If you feel that philanthropy has a negative connotation, in this context another word for it would be social justice (which it totally is).

Social Security contributions are not forfeited, they're your for life.

How so? Do they pay you back ssn taxes if you leave?

No, you just get your your retirement pension once you become eligible age-wise. You do, however, need to earn at least 40 credits throughout the years, which translates to at least 10 years of employment in the US.
