Without section 230 protection it would be impossible for the site to stay open, so in effect you're saying sites that moderate user content should be shut down. Does that seem like an accurate interpretation of your position?

Section 230 is another classic legalist versus legal realist versus "whatever absolves me" trap that people fall into on this forum.

The legal realism prevails with this stupid law, it will always prevail. You can both moderate / review / editorialize content, including political content, while simultaneously enjoying Section 230 protections.

If you let a bad community be bad in their dark corner, they won't spread as easily to the rest of the site. You can easily see that the accounts are toxic by seeing that they participate in garbage communities. And it's a great honeypot for authorities, be it for political astroturfing and nationstate stuff, or for borderline-illegal content.

I suspect this is the reason. I observed the opposite, a certain type of content disappearing after a separate comunity was created for it.

Well sure, they get to do whatever they want, you're right. It's their community they're moderating. We agree. That wasn't what I was asking-however.

I think it's probably warranted some of the time, mostly around topics where much heat but little light is generated.

From Canadian IPs? It is legal here now, so that is odd.

Only legal if you buy it through the state-approved sellers or grow your own.

Though the subreddit (was forced) to enact a “no sourcing” rule already in the past.

This is super stupid. If they're so against the content why allow it to exist in the first place?

I imagine this is reactive, since they can't proactively moderate their content. When they do get around to moderating (like checking reported comments), they can then penalize people who promoted the unacceptable content.

I think there should indeed be penalties for upvoting e.g. death threats.

How do we know that? The body just says [removed] and the user is marked as [deleted].

If the admins can alter the content of your posts, then surely they can delete / remove content and have it show whatever they choose.
