yes but not to the extent it cripples our healthcare system. That's what they're dealing with here. Addiction isn't contagious.

And? That was the point. It's better than 40% of the population becoming infected at the same time AND the hospitals totally collapsing.

Barring a miracle, mass production of a vaccine is at least 9 months away. Likely more like a year+ There's no better treatments coming. We can't control the spread until we can test people for the disease. As multiple leaders have stated, the lockdowns need to continue until we build up testing capabilities. For instance in WA, the governor said they are waiting for "widely-available testing, quick isolation for those who may have the virus, identifying people who came into contact with a positive case and getting them into quarantine."

There were about 320 overdose deaths in San Francisco last year, so close to one a day.

The primary goal is to keep the rate of infection under what the health care system can handle. If the rate of infection exceeds it, the whole house of cards starts coming down. Imagine doctors, firemen and policemen starting to succumb.

The stated goals keep changing, if that were the goal they’d start opening things up.

Why do you think that wouldn't just start a new exponential spread?

I hate how the idea of reopening has split down political party lines. This is definitely not the time for partisanship. Now that Republicans have come out as pro-reopening, San Francisco will be the last city to reopen in the country. 0 COVID-19 infections will be too many.

Flowers aren't consumed for survival, i.e. "essential". I'm not sure how intervals of time has any effect on that.

Over half the items Costco sells aren't food or necessary household goods either.

The US is struggling in many ways, but I can't he…
