I am shocked an appalled to see that there is an anti-vaxx undertone present on HN. A simple google search reveals that this information is false. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/bill-gates-id2020/ Please, @csense - this is only a digital certificate, one which is clearly designed not to actively track someone, but to provide much needed medical info in 3rd world countries who don't have the infrastructure to store…

Herein lies the answer.

You, my good human, have called it. MSFT shills out in force today.

Lest we not forget the ethics of MSFT and Bill Gates:

Embrace, extend, and extinguish

""Embrace, extend, and extinguish" (EEE),[1] also known as "embrace, extend, and exterminate",[2] is a phrase that the U.S. Department of Justice found[3] was used internally by Microsoft[4] to describe its strategy for entering product categories involving widely used standards, extending those standards with proprietary capabilities, and then using those differences in order to strongly disadvantage its competitors."

. I didn't mention anti-vax sentiment as the reason they should be ashamed, I was referring to the suggestion that ID2020 is in any way applicable to the current COVID crisis. It isnt.

2. I have no affiliation with Microsoft, and neither does Bill Gates, any longer.

Ok, I confess. I have a really obvious bias: objective reality.

There you go-- You've revealed your naïveté You are not objective-- you're human. That alone makes you are biased, apparently in particular towards prideful emotions especially when folks like myself expose your bias (such as towards "Appeals to Authority"-- snopes for example-- when I enlightened you to the fact that snopes is embroiled in controversy calling their "information verfication" reputation into question)…

That's why your comment was flagged, but my follow up comment with six real sources wasn't. Right. I am the naive one. This is no longer contributing to the conversation at hand.

I am shocked and appalled to see Snopes is believed to be a source of information validation on HN. Why-- Because Facebook told you so (facebook used Snopes for "fake news" verification)? ...Considering: "'Fact checking' website Snopes on verge of collapse after founder is accused of fraud, lies, and putting prostitutes and his honeymoon on expenses (and it hasn't told its readers THOSE facts)" https://www.dailymail.…

I don't see him saying that on reddit, and this appears to be another right-wing conspiracy theory about him[1]. The actual idea, which he doesn't particularly seem to be "pushing", is to have invisible tattoos injected into people in the developing world as an immutable vaccine record, not an ID. It's not unlike the way vets give dogs a small tattoo dot when the dog has been spayed. Medical records don't always surv…

Is this really any better? Do you think there is a qualitative difference between a 'vaccine' ID, which I can assure you will have information encoded that can be used as a personal identity marker, and what the original commenter was proposing? Is it really any better that this is happening in the "developing world"? You even make the case that it's identical to the practices we uphold to track animals . Furthermore…

Yes. You didn't read the article I posted, and you're already making assumptions to create a straw man.

The proposed research[1] (that Gates has been falsely linked to) proposes using quantum dots in a pattern. They need not be PII. A random person in a developing country would have no method or incentive to forge the quantum dots in their skin, so the pattern would be exactly the same on every person. Nothing personally identifiable.

Wow. Even this balanced comment is downvoted.

Satya has bought so many "open" source devs that these threads are an uphill battle.

Do you really want to be injected with a highly rushed vaccine that hasn't been tested for longterm side effects? Remember when they were putting asbestos into everything? Or when they were spraying neighborhoods with 'harmless' insecticides? Or when companies fudge results to pass regulations or performance specs. The world is not very different from where it was 50 years ago. I would rather get the rona than get an…

I am confused - Before we were talking about ID2020, now suddenly it is about vaccines? And from a 12-day old account, no less. A quick look at your comment history tells me you are only here to bridage the site with anti-vaxx messaging.
