they look more like old school first class seats. the problem with sleeping on a plane has to do with circulation -- it's actually hard on the heart to pump blood from your feet with you're motionless for hours at a time on a plane. What I'd rather see is designs that make the middle seat more palatable. There are more aircraft with 3 seats on each side now. It's not perfect, but ideas that make the middle seat better via dedicated armrests, or offsetting it slightly back, would be welcome. +1 It baffles me that non-middle seat passengers try to assert rights to middle seat armrests and consider themselves justified.

Same. Almost 30 years ago, I took an overnight slowboat in Asia with my parents where each passenger had a thin mat (half-inch thick, 2' wide). People sat up, lay down to read or sleep. It was great. I've been on sleeper buses in China and triple-bunk sleeper trains in India and would vastly prefer those to the airline experience. Challenges with capsule-style beds could be accommodating families and handling meals?

In the UK there are several 2-3 hour train routes that are routinely standing room only. It's not a big deal.
