Censor: Highly targeted and specific, usually along the lines of communication. Like Xi and Winnie the Pooh. The US doesn't censor(?) Blacklist: Broader, usually applied to products and companies. China blacklisted Facebook. The US blacklisted Huawei.

Every state censors things in some way, he difference is what is censored and how much impact it has obviously. Censorship can also describe private actions such as Twitter/Facebook refusing some ideas, and is that case is vastly vastly present in every country.

> Censorship can also describe private actions such as Twitter/Facebook refusing some ideas,

That's only true in the vernacular. True "censorship" is only relevant to government suppression. Individuals or private corporations are under no legal obligation to allow certain ideas/topics.

*That is to say, I could perfectly well create some new social network messaging app that specifically does not allow any posts about honeybees, screwdrivers, or Turkey. The government could not prohibit those topics.

Obama's response to contain China was the TPP. It could have been more (or less--no way to know) effective than Trump's, Obama just didn't tweet about it.

TPP was bad idea, it was so anti-worker I am surprised that a Democrat is supporting it. I do not have to say about the settlement system of TPP. It was stupid, literally having parallel legal system outside of all the current legal system. TPP died for good reasons because it for technocrats by technocrats.

Can you point out some of the ways it was anti-worker? Genuine question btw

The polls got his popular vote margin correct. They also got the Democratic generic ballot correct in 2018.

Yes, but they completely missed the point of the data. Popular vote is relatively easy to predict, but Trump's campaign reached really deep into quiet conservatives who wouldn't vote otherwise. Those people are still not going to respond to polls, and since they live in low-population areas, they won't affect the popular vote much, but they hit the electoral college hard. The Dem voters in the primaries are a predict…

This is something I've seen very few people actually remark on or take into consideration: the people who wouldn't have come to the election polls in the first race certainly won't be responding to the straw polls being conducted now and the models can't really reflect that. Or at least they don't currently seem to.

Myself, the planet where a president with a stronger stock market and unemployment than when he entered ~always gets re-elected.

Maybe, you know, look at the stock market to see if that's true, instead of just believing Trump's tweets about it...

You should probably look yourself. From what I've been reading from financial postings, the Trump administration has done many good things for the stock market (for the people however is a different story)

Usually whoever keeps the economy going and doesn't harm it in anyway gets re-elected for a second term.

Human rights? How about the cruel family/child separation camps at our southern border?

> "our" Southern border Account registered 10 days ago posting in political threads.

Posting in a political thread, AFAICT. Your implication here doesn't really fit given the available information.

The families should not have been separated but how else is the US supposed to handle a surge of asylum seekers? The camps seem lightweight and able to grow or shrink as needed. I might even agree with just allowing them all in to wait for asylum, it's the US' failure to accommodate afterall.

> I might even agree with just allowing them all in to wait for asylum, it's the US' failure to accommodate afterall.

If they were willing to risk abandoning their homes/community and cross a border illegally they'll most likely risk disappearing if their asylum application gets denied. That's a big risk.

Much like prisons they should be well funded and treated with respect and dignity, which is the treatment we would expect for our citizens if they were temporarily imprisoned in any country.

I thought that "blacklist" was deprecated and that "denylist" or "blocklist" were appropriate usages? https://developers.google.com/style/word-list#letter-B

Who cares? The words weren't even created with skin color in mind.

I'm really not a big fan of this kind of moral relativism. The US (though Donald Trump seems to want to) does not "blacklist" or "censor" to silence political dissent. China does and always has, heavily, to the point of nonsense.

You're racist for thinking that the word "black" used to refer to something as bad is at all related to dark skinned people.
