Will they also pull such shit with KaiOS?

I thought I'm a happy camper, when Nokia reissued the 8110. Ahh, no Google spyware, no Apple extorcionist paricing.

How wrong I was.

First of all it comes with Google Maps and Google Assistant. Then after the first software update it puts in Twitter and three crappy games, which full versions need to be bought and which cannot be removed.

Their privacy statement is also noo what I would call encouraging.

Do I really need to shell out for an IPhone after all?

Fortunately the backdoor requires physical access to the device, so it's not what worries me. I was more concerned about their data collection, but it looks like they changed to opt-in since: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/oneplus-data-leak-fix,news-2596...

I'm not sure how much I can trust them after that, though. They had a real chance to make a difference and they blew it.

Pretty sure you can use android without signing into your google account, but most people avoid doing so because its extremely convenient to sync your other devices with your phone. At the end of the day people voted with their wallets, and the wallets said convenience triumphs all, the only slight chance of spying protection is government regulation.

As someone attempting to use a stock samsung rom without google, its possible, but super annoying and buggy. I would not expect any reasonable person with an alternative to go through this, thechie or not. Google has tied into every part of the OS, seemingly for this reason. I am about to throw in the towel and try to sell this for a different used phone with better lineage (or other rom) support. Even lineage does not cut out google integration completely. Your identifiable device details are still sent to google to 'check for internet' constantly.

They avoid it because you can't install any apps (and F-Droid isn't a solution for most people). And without apps you might as well buy a legacy phone.

Hardly new. It was unwanted a decade ago, when forced down my throat. It just seems people are wising up to the monopoly status. I thought the IE case would have preempted this preinstalled crap. What kind of law can help us seperate hardware, software, and personal rights?

Alas, it's true.

The crapware bloat has infested the entire industry. Sometimes I just don't understand? Don't some of these Samsung phones cost hundreds of dollars? Why annoy people who've already paid you with the crapware?

From software companies like Google and facebook, to hardware behemoths like Samsung, the entire industry has become addicted to this stuff.
