I hate to be one of "those people" but I logged out of Facebook on all of my devices on New Year's Eve and haven't been back since. I used to check the site multiple times per day. I thought I'd miss out on a few groups but to be honest the people I know from those groups IRL keep me updated on the rare important announcement - ie a couple of upcoming events. I haven't missed it at all.

Full Disclosure: I do still have Messenger Lite on my phone, but with notifications disabled so I only check it a couple of times per day.

Facebook has a ton of dark patterns. There is always one unread message in there shitty messenger client. Except there are zero conversations because I deleted them. And the messenger app is an incredible piece of junk, whoever did the ux with the chat heads should find a new line of work.

Good for you, but it's only been 9 days mate, and leaving one of its tendrils in place makes it more likely you'll gradually get sucked back in.

When buying a new phone I always spend some time deleting all Samsung, Microsoft, Facebook and carrier related apps. Bah, for more crying about web-tracking the browser is still a sandboxed environment, in the other hand what the article is talking here is an app with permanent GPS access, notifications, etc etc.

Just different levels of "bad". For example Google is by default having all the same data about users (on Android) and more, of course it engages in the same activities as FB. Same as all other fat clients for social networks. It is almost impossible to escape spying by bigcorps.

E.g. I tried deleting Chrome from my mobile and I can't, I could only disable it. So crapware too? I'd say yes.

PS: read about "notifications" and remembered a funny story about Chrome. I was once given a Samsung phone to fix some AD notifications coming up regularly. And it was not obvious for some reason who was sending them. Apparently some apps can hijack default browser setting and force open their links in Chrome (which, again, isn't possible to remove), and Chrome by default allowed notifications from sites. After guessing this and opening Chrome I found out that there were several dozen open tabs, and some them were sending "useful" notifications. Default browser on that phone since buying the device was "Internet" app by Samsung. Same stuff, only without notifications, also happened on my own phone where Firefox is default. Until I force disabled Chrome some apps continued to hijack defaults and opened links in Chrome.

Am I the only one experiencing "Facebook is so bad" fatigue? I am not implying that there should be no criticism, I believe quite the opposite, but I think we have heard all of this before, many times over.

I've seen them attacked for a few things which I don't see as major or as Facebook's fault and can imagine that people constantly seeing people complain about these little things will mean it detracts from the big, important things.

I had an account for a few weeks in 2007. Facebook is super weird.

Chat heads are the first thing I disable on every new phone.

I mostly get frustrated by features breaking and then staying broken for months. I don't know how things like not being able to expand an image or play a video you've sent are slipping past testers.
