Facebook lost billions in days and is poised to lose more.

I imagine there are more pressing issues than the difficulty of implementing a schema.

Google deletes your data within I think 64 days if you request them to or delete your account. https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32046

There's nothing there which clarifies that "delete" isn't a euphemism for "flag it to no longer be displayed to users" like it is everywhere else where companies collect data on users, so you'll excuse my skepticism.

Allow me to ask the obvious question. Who doesn't do the something like this? Not to alleviate facebook of blame, but who's to say data on almost every other social media service isn't also just flagged for deletion?

Snapchat claims to. And after the trouble they once got into for not deleting media after it was viewed, I believe them.

Clearly there is a big disconnect here. It seems somebody is suggesting there should be a correlation between a user removing content from their account and Facebook destroying some of Facebook property. Anything submitted to Facebook is the property of Facebook. Users have no business telling Facebook to destroy Facebook property.

Not just billions but tens of billions. Somewhere around $50B.

I’ve let quite a few people log into the Facebook app on my phone and now I’m pissed.

I was always careful with privacy settings on Facebook, but the thought never even crossed my mind of what I’d be “agreeing” to by letting someone briefly use my phone.

I’m sure someone will come along shortly to tell me I deserve it and should have know better and was asking for it but whatever.

How will the GDPR handle instances like this?

Why does it sound creepy? What percentage of the population, historically, have been "free" in a sense that they don't belong to an organization that exerts some sort of control over their social world? It seems there are many shades and dimensions here...

Actually I think in some ways the lower classes have more psychological freedom here.

I've worked a bunch of minimum wage retail jobs and all the grunts mock the daily "walmart chant." At high status jobs people apparently really buy the "my employer is who I am" thing.
