> In 2003 Vice reached a $25,000 settlement with the freelance writer Jessica Hopper. The deal involved defamation claims tied to an interview she did with the rapper Murs that was published in the February 2003 issue of the magazine, according to a copy of the agreement viewed by The Times. During the interview, Murs asked Ms. Hopper if he could have sex with her. She said no and included that answer in her article.…

What? Those comments are remarking on your needles injection of race into the discussion, not your criticism of rap culture.
You are correct in that WillPostForFood other poster is mentioning rap culture, which is predominantly based on a racial and class-based culture, but they are not injecting it into the discussion as it is part of what occurred. Perhaps you're simply uncomfortable discussing the topic, which is common.
Huh? He literally said "black rap culture", not simply "rap culture" as you deliberately omitted in your reply. More than half of the top 10 rappers on the I-Tunes charts right now are white, and there is a huge section of the black community that is extremely critical of rap culture, there is also a large selection of rap music outside of the mainstream that explicitly rejects these themes, yet WillPostForFood insists on characterizing misogyny in rap as "black rap culture" rather than accept the criticism that there is a little more nuance to the topic than "black people are to blame for this, don't let them off the hook, it's their culture!".
> Perhaps you're simply uncomfortable discussing the topic, which is common.
Perhaps you're simply condescending and dismissive.

As a general rule for life I've always made sure to keep anything romantic out of my work life. If there was someone important enough to me that I worked with who I wanted to approach in that sense I'd wait until one of us moved onto another job. I'm not willing to say the vast majority of work related flings and relationships end up in disaster but I'm sure a lot of other people won't say that the majority wind up a…
With you 100%. Sure, meeting people at work happens— in America people spend 8-12 hours a day there. But best to not act on anything until one or both parties don’t work at the same place. My dad had a slightly gross phrase for this: ‘don’t shit where you eat’. As in there’s no sense in potentially poisoning workplace relations if a romantic overture or relationship doesn’t go well.

Interesting that the behavior by Murs goes I commented on and uncriticized in the article. It is in the realm of bad behavior (asking a reporter “can we xxxx”). I suspect it is a lot more comfortable to critique white corporate culture than black rap culture, even though the later is deeply misogynistic.
I’m not sure what this has to do with his racial identity; I feel the same way about his behavior regardless.

The ultimate racist move is to deny the connection between hip hop and black culture. Total cultural appropriation right there.
Your snide tone is reason enough to write you off as a troll, but to read my comment as a denial of the connection between hip hop and black culture while also implying I am a racist requires a special gift for disingenuous toxicity. You've made your point.

#107I am baffled by the outrage. Isn't Vice known to be an edgy, drugy and boundary bending outlet? Are we seriously pretending to be suprised that drugged up late teens are doing sick stuff. Or what am I missing here?
just because d-bag is your "image" doesn't make you immune from sexual harassment laws.

I think you should consider your own position before accusing others of deliberate omission.

The three comments here show why behavior like Murs goes not only unaddressed, but unpunished. Rap culture shouldn't be off limits to criticism because of race.
You do realize that “rap culture” revolves around a product marketed to, and bought predominately by white kids, right? I realize the term is just a dog whistle for a much less kind word, but still.. so stupid.
