IOTA is built by a bunch of technical founders who know enough about blockchain to confuse a lot of non-experts into thinking they are really smart and credible. But you will see very consistently in the cryptocurrency space that the experts refuse to endorse iota, and frequently say strongly negative things about it. They are very effective at selling snake oil, but that's all their blockchain is. The tangle that th…

You are so full of lies... "know enough about blockchain to confuse a lot of non-experts". Yes, they just INVENTED full Proof of Stake, they did the first decentralized voting, asset exchange, supply chain and so much more on top of blockchain since 2011. They pioneered so much of this space that to hear you lie flat out is almost too dumb to even spend time correcting. There is no one on Earth with more blockchain e…

I think you're breaking the rules here with the tone of your message.

It gets better... their "improved" version of "curl"? Kerl. You can't make this shit up.

Kerl is Keccak I.E. SHA-3, the international NSA standard. They called it Kerl for fun in homage of Curl, which is still under active development with the absolute world-leading cryptographers of lightweight cryptography. Curl had to be invented to push LIGHTWEIGHT cryptography which is necessary for the Internet of Things. It's quite astonishing how much misinformation is spread around. https://blog.iota.org/iota-fo…

SHA-3 is not an NSA standard. It was invented by Guido Bertoni, Joan Daemen, Michaël Peeters and Gilles Van Assche who are researchers at various companies/universities and are from Italy and Belgium.

Your curl function is not even listed as one of the major lightweight crypto primitive on Lux' zoo: https://www.cryptolux.org/index.php/Lightweight_Hash_Functio...

Your post is full of shit.

IOTA is kind of a joke IMHO: * They have this thing called the "coordinator" which is a master-node run by them, which is a single point of failure. The codebase that this node runs is proprietary software. They claim there will be no need for this masternode in the long run but they never say any ETA about when to remove it (which hints that removing it may always expose the security flaws of their network). This me…

Ripples sounds more legit to me. I mean look at this thread about IOTA: https://www.reddit.com/r/Iota/comments/70ya29/time_for_a_par... Anyone putting their money in IOTA is an absolute idiot.

> Anyone putting their money in IOTA is an absolute idiot.

I bought in when it was trading well under $1. I'm holding long term so I don't much care about today's price, but it _is_ nice to be up >700% so far.

I don't consider myself an absolute idiot on this one.

It appears their own crypto was already vulnerable. A friend pointed me to this article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/amycastor/2017/09/07/mit-and-bu... He was also concerned that there's no security proof in the whitepaper. To me, it seems like you could feasibly launch an attack with less than a majority of the computing resources.

So much misinformation, where to begin. IOTA is using Keccak/SHA-3, then they are developing a new kind of LIGHTWEIGHT cryptographic primitive together with the world leaders of this field https://blog.iota.org/iota-foundation-hires-cybercrypt-615d2...

nice try IOTA

You seem to be a pretty big bitcoin fan (all your other comments), so I would say it is fair that you may be slightly biased against IOTA.

IOTA does not proclaim to be finished, it is still in beta. Hence the need for the coordinator. The coordinator will be turned off once there are enough transactions to secure the network.

> They decided it's a good idea to use ternary logic instead of binary logic This is the one main thing that keeps me very, very skeptical regarding IOTA (and the coordinator thing, although that may be resolved someday when traffic increases so they can remove it - at least that's what they say). It looks a bit like they had this JINN processor developed which appears to be ternary in nature, but it went nowhere, an…

So much misinformation here. The Jinn project is in active development.

Have you anything more substantial as proof than your word for it?

This is total nonsense. Complete FUD.

The coordinator is not a 'masternode', and it is not a 'single point of failure'.

For ex: The coo was shutdown a month or so ago and -> Txs still were being processed, and some being confirmed.

The coo just literally makes an array for tip selection, for helping bootstrap the network. The COO will also be opensourced soon anyways, and ontop of that, it will be removed at some point. (It is 100% optional for a fullnode to even listen to the coo giving the array for tip selection purposes anyways), you can run your node without use of the coordinator.

So your post is actually a complete joke, massive FUD, and disinformation.

The crypto being rolled, is actually being reviewed by cryptographers, and also it is being evolved and optimized/perfected by Artificial Intelligence. https://www.reddit.com/r/Iota/comments/70ya29/time_for_a_par...

Let that sink in.

>Why does everyone repeat that Byzantine consensus requires maximum 33% of participants to be dishonest? Not 33% of participants, 33% of the hash power, could just be one participant with a pile of GPUs or ASICS or "JINN" chips lol. That's the claim made by the IOTA author, anyway. Right now it wouldn't surprise me if someone could amass 90+% of IOTA hash power anyway. >If messages cannot be forged Tbh this is not ev…

Okay but it was more of a general question. I see Hashgraph and others always saying that they need 33% of participants to be honest. But with unforgeable message signatures that limitation doesn't apply.

Virtual Voting in hashgraph requires a 2/3 agreement.

Of course PoW provides some protection against sybil attacks, but the reality is that with enough hashpower the network can be overtaken. (Hence why HashGraph is a closed network.)

This kind of post doesn't work when cryptographers read it.

This was a complete joke fud article. Was debunked 1000s of times.

Also: The 'vulnerability' they mention there. Oh yea: The IOTA team actually TOLD MIT about it, and it was already fixed in August. These FUD articles were posted in September. (Was fixed over a month before they even released this FUD).

Conflicts of interest galore, complete FUD, total nonsense, was already fixed a month before, and iota actually was the ones to go to mit and tell them about this.
