Thanks for phrasing your concerns about this regulation in such a nice way. I tried to articulate it in an earlier post but it was very controversially received. Overall, this will be yet another additional challenge for EU-based startups in comparison with their US peers and keep armies of lawyers busy.
And if you're complying because you want users in the EU, then you might as well design your system to comply for everybody. And that's a Good Thing as more privacy is better.
