A basic primer is linked below for you. I'm sure you'll have wonderful, super duper insightful, and super smart commentary on it. Looking forward to it! http://www2.ucsc.edu/whorulesamerica/theory/marxism.html

Have you read that piece? Because I have read it before, and Domhoff writes with regards to Marxists rather than Marx . If you're going to slag Marx for what Leninists and their derivatives have decided to read into it--well, that's a pretty curious thing to do. Not uncommon, because frankly most people haven't actually read Marx and are unqualified to opine, but I know for a fact that Domhoff has , which makes this.…

> Marxists rather than Marx

While you may think it's worthwhile to compartmentalize an idea and it's followers actions and interpretations, not many people on either side of the aisle would agree with you. "Punch a Nazi".

> Anyway, let's be real: this isn't a "basic primer" and it doesn't contain the argument you thought it did after you googled "Marxism critique".

I've taken classes with the guy, but from comment one it's been obvious you're more interested in low level attempts at being a condescending prick than having a conversation. I didn't share my actual thoughts with you or this community because it's a waste of my time, I'll just end up talking to dumbfucks like you regardless. Enjoy being a Marxist in the most aggressively capitalist industry in the world.

You didn't say Marxists. You were speaking specifically about Marx and how nothing Marx says is worth taking seriously. Marx and Marxists are related but distinct things. So, one: lift with your knees, goalposts are heavy. Two: come correct if you try to play this game in the first place.

I'm being a little condescending--and I stress, a little--because you are acting like someone against whom the best rhetorical tactic is condescension as you have been literally seething in every word even before I posted a single thing--best to toss off one-liners and irrelevant links so you can get that dopamine feels-good-man rush, right? Because that way you can tell yourself how you're triggering so many liberals. But for real, it's a waste of your precious, precious time to "share your actual thoughts". You should go back to being a Thundering Capitalist Captain Titan Man of Industry and never post here again, right?

(And, spoilers: I'm neither a Marxist nor even really much of a social democrat. I just don't like half-assed trolling by people who act like they got too mad to stick around /r/badhistory.)

> Many would argue that job subsidies like this are the opposite of capitalism. Under a free market, the government wouldn't be subsidizing anything. Some would argue that this is exactly the point of the phrase.

So it's not capitalism at all. It's something else. Undue influence of individuals with power (via money or other mechanisms) is hardly unique to capitalist systems. Every socialist country has had the exact same problems with corruption and misuse of power. It's also pretty trivial to argue that such corruptions and abuses are far far more toxic under socialism because there is no "pressure relief valve" in the form…

Capitalism existing under a state that will subsidize the needs of capital is still capitalism. There never was a period where 'pure capitalism' existed, so it's a bit disingenuous to claim that the system we have isn't capitalism.

Marxists think they have a total understanding of society and economy. They don't see the future as uncertain, but rather as a series of inevitable steps that proceed towards a global communist state of society where human nature no longer applies and people are no longer self-interested. So they've got this weird verbal tic where they discuss present events as though they're historical events. After all, when you kn…

> a global communist state of society where human nature no longer applies and people are no longer self-interested. Until 300 generations back, all of human society was "a global communist state of society". Over the past 300 generations, domination by an idle class of heirs over the working people of the world has spread. How is "a global communist state of society" a place where "human nature no longer applies", w…

Your dreams of noble savagery are ridiculous. Humans in prehistory fought each other just as hard and as viciously as chimps fight each other today.
