Look at Xeon E3, for example: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681911...

Thanks. It looks there are reasonably priced mini-ITX boards that support Skylake Xeons (a note to this that are considering this: v5 E3 (Skylake) use the same socket as Cores, but need a different chipset). The 80W TDP worries me about though, cooling, noise and money/pollution wise (the extra 45W make around 400kWh/year). Considering the CPU will be idle most of the time, do you have figures about the actual idle c…

If you end up buying high TDP chip, you can simply cap the clock either in BIOS or in kernel to save power.

Sorry to say this but "Reinstall windows" is a good place to start. How much ram do you have?

16gb ram. It's DDR3 1600. Reinstalling windows is not really something I want to do.

Yeah I hear you. I just got used to doing it years ago. It helps if you keep your docs on a separate drive so you only have to reinstall the OS.

I've mostly migrated things since I have a 120gb ssd that I've installed the OS on... I just don't want to haha

You say that as if nvidia's drivers aren't also utter trash.

NVidia's drivers aren't regularly blacklisted[1] or complained about[2] for being absolute crap [1] https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/commit/26993380b16487649c2ae5... [2] https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2013/09/26/dolphin-emulator-and...

point 1 true,

point 2 bullshit, people complain about nvidia's drivers all the time.

2 is arguable because every single manufacturer has terrible drivers, true.

As a developer, the amount of inconsistencies in AMD drivers is baffling.

Doing illegal is just optimization. Intel can undercut AMD lawfully if it wants. Instead of hidden rebates, Intel can openly cut prices.

You're failing to acknowledge that AMD can just as easily cut prices to compete. If Intel starts selling at a loss they'll be subject to even more punitive damages than they faced for bribing OEMs. Not to mention they'd be hung out to dry by shareholders.

> AMD can just as easily cut prices to compete.

They can't. They don't have profit margins or cash in hand to do that.

> Intel starts selling at a loss they'll be subject to even more punitive damages t

I think you failed to see my argument. Intel has 60% profit margins. They can cut their prices a lot without making a loss. AMD cant.

Grab a copy of Win10 LTSB-N and get rid of Win7. It has all that annoying crap stripped out. You should be able to find a copy fairly easily floating around here and there.

doesn't that require an enterprise license?

I think they were implying piracy or something

To quote Wikipedia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10_editions ): > Windows 10 Enterprise Long Term Servicing Branch (LTSB) is similar to Windows 10 Enterprise but does not include Cortana, Windows Store, the Edge browser, Photo Viewer and the UWP version of Calculator (replaced by classic version), and will not receive any feature updates, gives companies more control over the update process. I think the 7$/month option is only for managed service providers to resell to their customers, you can't get a single instance of it directly from MS. If they are allowed to offer it to private customers and if any do I have no idea.

Ahh that's a bummer.
