#5I am not seeing the information about encryption they mention in any of my chat details on the iOS client. Is this part Android only or did simply non of my contacts upgrade yet? I have version 2.16.1 edit: After a while it now shows up with certain contacts for me
This includes chats, group chats, attachments, voice notes, and voice calls across Android, iPhone, Windows Phone, Nokia S40, Nokia S60, Blackberry, and BB10.
Users running the most recent versions of WhatsApp on any platform now get full end to end encryption for every message they send and every WhatsApp call they make when communicating with each other.
It likely requires both ends to have the latest version before e2ee is enabled.Re: WhatsApp's Signal Protocol integration is now complete
#6When whatsapp is implementing the signal protocol, why should one use whatsapp in the first place?[1]
I hope this good advertisement gives signal another round of traction.
[1] Ok, you've got me. The less techie contacts will swing the feature-bat and the other already use signal.

#7Does this mean that WhatsApp can talk to Signal Private Messenger app?

I haven't seen the notification either, yet, though.

> Before all users have updated to the latest version of the software for their platform, there will still be some plaintext on the network. To make this transition as clear as possible, WhatsApp clients notify users when their chats become end to end encrypted. Starting today, users will see a notice in their conversation screen as their individual and group chats become end to end encrypted. Additionally, the encryption status of any chat is visible under that chat's preferences screen.
I imagine all of the end-points in the conversation, including you, your friends, and any bots or loggers (I don't know how these things work) will need to be able to handle end to end encryption before they switch or I'd imagine those who are left out will just see a bunch of garbage.
