how does openbazaar make money? How will the investors recover money and make profit?

$1M in seed funding isn't that much.

At the moment, they're receiving donations [1], but it's entirely conceivable they're going for a similar business model to MySQL's original authors: selling support, consulting services, and training for their products.

I couldn't find this answer either. It's difficult to trust someone with large hosting / development / etc costs but no business model. It's not a charity. How do they "keep the lights on" with no fees?

The network effects of this will be pretty strong if this takes off. If they have a large captive audience of people with their wallets open, ads could be pretty effective/lucrative (and there's no adblocker if they own the browser).

Earlier quoted context omitted.

Except it works on UDP and not TCP.. TOR does not work on UDP, there are things besides http that exist on the internet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_protocol_suite

Your comment is unnecesarily presumptuous, but regardless... I don't really understand why OpenBazaar would use UDP, and I can't seem to find any information about it, but it looks like they tell server operators to open up both a TCP and UDP port. I guess they might use it for DHT control messages? Their documentation site is down right now, so that's the best I got.

Well here ya go,

https://github.com/OpenBazaar/OpenBazaar-Server/issues/202

https://github.com/OpenBazaar/OpenBazaar-Server/issues/164

The server would need to be re-written for native support since it uses UDP, but I think it might be possible using a 3rd party like onioncat.

"Open"

All of the development and communication of this "decentralized" "free software" project happens on Slack, a centralized proprietary service. I've had to tell the sad news about this to far too many people on their IRC channel so far.

And then there is them using GitHub as well.

OpenBazaar people are huge hypocrites.
