#3I think the first place you need to start is a deep dive into Unix (and Unix-like systems).
I spent the first decade of my career as a sysadmin -- and frankly, what's now known as DevOps is what good Unix sysadmins were doing anyway (albeit with homegrown tools).
Without the foundation of strong Unix-fu, all teh shiny tools and services everybody uses today will always seem like black magic.
