I'd love to see data on this. I've long been of the impression that the world of high-profile backed startups is an after school club for top-tier universities, and that if you didn't go to one of these schools you're very unlikely to get in. I bet Y-combinator has some good statistics.

Next question is: if that's true, is it because these schools are better or is it due to social network effects and branding?
