I wanted to share some honest reflections from our recent launch experience and hopefully learn from others who’ve gone through the same.
We recently launched ConversionWax, a tool that helps ecom and SaaS brands personalize on-site content based on geo, traffic source, or intent (e.g., showing the right homepage banner to someone from LA vs. London, or tailoring CTAs for affiliate traffic).
To build early momentum, we listed on a few smaller marketplaces:
- MicroLaunch
- Fraizer
- InsanelyCoolTools
They looked promising initially, but after 3+ weeks, we got fewer than 20 visits combined. No engagement. No conversions. Just… silence.
Then we launched on Product Hunt.
The traffic bump was better, but it quickly became clear that visibility mostly goes to those who spend on promotion or already have large audiences. I’m not blaming the system, but as a small bootstrapped team looking to connect with real users, it’s been more challenging than we expected.
We built a tool that improves conversion rates, but ironically, getting in front of people without already being "in the loop" feels harder than ever.
So here’s my question for the community:
How have you actually found and attracted early users, especially affiliates, creators, or marketers, without spending big or relying on launch platforms?
I would love to hear what worked for you, such as affiliate platforms, cold outreach, community building, or anything else.
Thanks in advance — and happy to share what we’re learning in return
