New Wiki Sucks?

Is it me or does the new Wikipedia layout make it way harder and more difficult to do "Wiki research"?

What don't you like about the new layout? I find it to be a really well-done change that helps to modernize the page without getting rid of its classic text-first approach. In fact, other than moving the table of contents to the side, I really don't see any major differences.

Also, if you don't like the new layout, you can get the old one back. If you create an account, and go to preferences -> appearance, you can change back to the old "Vector Legacy (2010)" layout [1]

My first response was also positive. Cleaner yet persistent nav to jump around quickly

You lose like 2 inches of text real estate on the left side under the navigation stuff (and the white blankness beneath it) I reckon most people are finding their way to Wiki directly from Google anyway so why waste so much screen space

https://www.wikiwand.com/ lets you customize how Wikipedia is rendered.

I find the defaults easier to read.

I think I dislike it out of newness.

But I do profess a dislike for how it hides the nav at even medium sized screens.

I don't understand why they pushed the table of contents like it was super important. Are there really people who need to have it all the time under their nose? Generally I just read it once to find the specific information I'm looking for, and that's it. On the other hand, I use language links a lot, and now I have to make an additional click to find them, that's just annoying.

Eventually I just installed extensions on my browsers to get rid of the problem (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/revert-wikipedia-l... https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classic-wikip... if aynone is looking for a solution). It's less inconvenient than creating an account, but it is dicey and I wish wikimedia offered a more convenient solution.
