Hi everyone I'm doing a UI/UX Case Study on Hacker News and would really appreciate if you answered the questions below. Thank you so much for your time and help! also open to any advice or critique.

1. Which age range do you fall under? - 19 and younger - 20's - 30's - 40's - 50 and older

2. Do you currently or have in the past worked in the tech field? Y/N

3. How long have you been using Hacker News? # of years

4. How often do you visit HN weekly? - multiple times daily - once a day - every other day - once a week

5. Do you contribute to the website? - yes, often - yes, every now and then - no, don't care to - no, too difficult to

6. Rate the usability of the current website. 1 being low 10 being high

7. Why do you choose HN as your Tech news source over other platforms?

8. What do you hope to accomplish when visiting HN? Are you able to accomplish your goal?

9. If you could add a feature and remove a feature from the website what would they be?

8. What do you hope to accomplish when visiting HN? Are you able to accomplish your goal? Informed about tech news. Yes.

9. If you could add a feature and remove a feature from the website what would they be? Nothing

10. Describe the current website in one or more words? Good :)

Because there's a high enough percent of good content, comments are often helpful, and it's lightweight.

I don't define a goal before I open a news site, so not applicable.

The recent addition of next/prev buttons is nice, though keeping relative position on the screen would be nicer (so I'll continue to use collapse, another fairly recent feature). One big omission from the featureset is easily seeing what's new, either in replies to your comments or (to a lesser extent) in threads, though some argue it's for the better that you have to seek out replies actively so idk.

7. Why do you choose HN as your Tech news source over other platforms? High ratio of signal to noise. Regularly see comments from big players in the tech field.

8. What do you hope to accomplish when visiting HN? Are you able to accomplish your goal? Informed about tech news, and procrastination. Yes.

9. If you could add a feature and remove a feature from the website what would they be? Better handling for lots of comments. I don't like the "More" link at the bottom of the page. Would maybe remove the "You've posted too quickly" issue that intermittently seems to occur.

10. Describe the current website in one or more words? Clean.

7. Why do you choose HN as your Tech news source over other platforms? The community here is smart, and doesn't take any shit.

8. What do you hope to accomplish when visiting HN? Are you able to accomplish your goal? Learn something interesting and/or useful

9. If you could add a feature and remove a feature from the website what would they be? It's surprisingly well done, I'd be afraid to change anything.

10. Describe the current website in one or more words? Elegant

7. Why do you choose HN as your Tech news source over other platforms? Clean, basic, intelligent user base compared to other social media platforms.

8. What do you hope to accomplish when visiting HN? Are you able to accomplish your goal? Get involved in discussions on variety of topics. Yes.

9. If you could add a feature and remove a feature from the website what would they be? I would not touch a thing. Maybe add option for dark mode?

10. Describe the current website in one or more words? Basic, clean, old school, and informative.

7. Why do you choose HN as your Tech news source over other platforms? It gives me access to all kinds or news, be it tech, political, and I also get to see awesome stuff that people are working on. Love the community.

8. What do you hope to accomplish when visiting HN? Are you able to accomplish your goal? I visit HN mostly to access Show HN, also the monthly Who wants to be hired, Who wants to be hiring thread. Yes I am able to accomplish my goal of visiting HN.

9. If you could add a feature and remove a feature from the website what would they be? I would stick to the way it is. No fancy UI, just plain and direct knowledge list.

10. Describe the current website in one or more words? Plain and Direct.

8. What do you hope to accomplish when visiting HN? Are you able to accomplish your goal? Learn about new software/products/paradigms and things happening in the world of "tech". Yes.

9. If you could add a feature and remove a feature from the website what would they be? Comment reply notifications, though I use an external service for this

10. Describe the current website in one or more words? Barebones and well moderated community full of intelligent people
