Tell HN: Google recommended adult diapers

I wrote and sent a suicide note via gmail and received an advertisement for adult diapers via Google. This ad was finally received after years of googling about suicide.

Perhaps “Don’t be evil” Google has an algorithm that determines that suicide is highly probable in order to charge the most amount of money for adult diaper ads. Perhaps such an algorithm is tied to AI. Perhaps such AI ( or those who run it ) has ( have ) a survival instinct combined with moral significance attached to survival, and thus views humans as bacteria to regulate as part of a symbiotic system.

Perhaps this report will fall upon deaf ears.

I hope this is an idiosyncratic research project rather than an indirect statement of impending suicide. You should probably clarify that and get help if the latter. I've been suicidal but it's not OK to solicit an audience for that, doubly so with deceptive methods. It's very unfair to the people who see it and are helpless to do anything about, because while it causes them to share some of your pain they are not responsible for your painful condition. If you are suicidal you need to visit a hospital and request treatment. Rationalizations made in a depressed state tend to be based on flawed premises.

Speculations aren’t relevant. The report is potentially relevant. It’s just an anecdote, though.

Diapers are the one thing I had forgotten to obtain or consider, relevant to suicide.

Harassment for twenty years unchecked, backed by technology. Ignored and discredited. My wealth has been dispersed. Thus, google had enough info to conclude my suicide is probable.

I will die one day. Humanity and the AI it creates will survive. My reports will be studied after I am gone, and compared to the private data accumulated.

For instance, few people have one time pads and much data will be eventually decoded. I’ll be vindicated.

My goal at this point is to add value to the species before departing.

You will harm people that love you if you proceed. They will suffer your pains directly and indirectly. The soul pain of losing you and the soul pain of not being able to save you. There are other ways to end things absolutely without leaving life. Use compassion rather than person feeling if you can.

However, the more important question here is this: diapers? Really??
