At Raising the Floor, we’re an international coalition of individuals and organizations dedicated to ensuring that the Internet, and everything available through it, is accessible to people with accessibility barriers due to disability, literacy, digital literacy, or aging, and regardless of their economic resources. Our vision is to revolutionize the landscape of assistive technology by creating an infrastructure to facilitate the development of a wide range of affordable accessibility solutions around the world. That is, the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure(GPII). You will help a team of bright and talented developers located across continents, develop a system that supports the “portability” of user preferences across any platform or device. WHAT YOU WILL DO: Implement the changes required in GPII to enable Assistive Technology (AT) to be supported by GPII: Gather information about accessibility and usability settings from a list of AT, including where and how these settings are stored. Work with the team to provide necessary information into a Unified Listing (UL) system and its ancillary databases. Identify or create ‘settings handlers’ that can read and change these setting files. Help define settings data structures and repositories. Implement settings handlers into GPII and others subsystems for static or dynamic settings application. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE IN: Assistive Technologies (AT). Developing on Windows and MacOS systems. Working on global projects. Working in an environment with Continuous Integration (CI). Node.js; Javascript; data structures with formats such as JSON; writing software APIs. Working in an open source project is a plus. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
