I have a new Android Marshmallow phone which says it's encrypted (Settings-->Security-->Encryption-->Encrypted) and for which I have set a password. The phone upon reboot proceeds all the way to connection with the cell network (and downloading of SMS and TCP-based messages) prior to requesting my password. This seems to me to be strictly a lock-screen setup. Am I correct?

#2Just to clarify, by contrast my Nexus 5x behaves by requiring password input very early in the boot process, before any network connection. There is a substantial post-password boot process taking place.
This new phone boots ALL the way up, then provides a password input dialog.

Check your Accessibility settings. Allowing any app such access turns off the pre-boot password prompt, and you need to manually turn it back on again.

Thanks, you're correct that I had two services with rights under Settings-->Accessibility. LastPass and Twilight. I have turned them both off, but do not see how to manually re-enable the pre-boot password prompt.

Yup. Also, you can keep the services on and turn this setting on after enabling them.
