Crate engines sell for between $3000 and $12000 for cars. Transmissions $2000 to $5000. (Prices from the first source I found, a reasonable sample range but I suspect you can find things outside the range) In stock and ready to pick-up today at a warehouse near you.

So up to $17k in material costs before the many many hours of labor involved.

Oh? Well to be fair, the ugliest thing on the road is not strictly a car, and to call it a "truck" is both an insult to anything that actually computes, and to actual trucks – or anything else that fits in road lanes.

Interesting, I find it to be more pleasing than many recent BMW EVs I've seen. I was preparing to not like it as I clicked the link and was pleasantly surprised. Don't love the tail lights, but otherwise it's good/fine to my eye.

So then you are fine with XXXX at the front? :) Modern Bimmers are surely an acquired taste for me, but some of the bulldog looks can be mitigated with different/contrasting color schemes. I like the taillights, they can't please everyone, eh? :) My pinnacle is the E30 M3.

This is all about problems with FSD. Why is a car where you don't have disengagements a worse driver?

I said a better “human driver.”

Waymo is probably safer, but safety comes at the risk of not behaving like a human, and hence causing confusion for other human drivers.

Tesla drives more like humans drive.

Love the looks of the A6 Avant, but at $150K it's in a different price bracket, no? Used to lust for the Allroads 20 years ago, aka German Outbacks.

People often think that Tesla is neck-and-neck with Waymo, but Waymo does 500,000 unsupervised rides/week and Tesla has done 0 ... ever.

I am all for progress but this alpha testing on public roads scares me.

I don't super mind it, no. The overall look is much better than I expected.

The high end is large race tuned engines. Smaller engines are much cheaper and all you need.

That is also brand new. Rebuilt engines are much cheaper and good enough
