Technically you should be taking your stuff with you when you leave the country, and not assume you will just be allowed back in. If anything, there are services that can deliver your stuff back to you, so this is not the big deal it seems to be.

That’s the point. The current people in power don’t want immigrants because the vast majority of immigrants are non white.

The tall blond nordics they really want have no real motivation to deal with this bizarre BS as they usually already have a great standard of living in say Norway.

So you end up with a ton of folks from places where running water is still a luxury. A lot of these people are even excellent church attending Christians.

Not white though.

I really do think this country is ran by idiots. No one will be there to pick the crops, prisoners make poor farm hands.

The price of food will skyrocket, and if the rest of the world wants to punish us they could just suspend food imports to the US.

This was all predictable, and while the Democrats are far from perfect, at least you don’t have chaos.

Every country has the government it deserves.

Not at the moment, but the result of the current UK system has been huge uncontrolled levels of immigration leading to deep public resentment, so that may change in the future

‘Uncontrolled’ - surely the control point was the initial application being submitted from abroad?

It was very much ‘controlled’. We lost SO many European workers due to the obsession with EU Freedom of Movement that entire sectors like nursing were about to implode without a source of new workers.

I don't now about the UK but having to leave to renew your visa is not unique to the US.

Maybe compare it from point of asian phd, who follows all rules, spends thousands of dollars, and years applying for job and visas... and much better treatment of people, who move to US illegally.

I stopped traveling to US, because during covid goverment, could not be even bothered to clarify entry rules (what sort of booster shots were needed etc). At the same time south border was widely opened. Clear rules and fair game, are the bare minimum!

There are fixed number of jobs, fixed number of houses to rent... it is not infinitive baloon.

Certainly not Germany - I renewed mine at the city's immigration office, which was even helpful enough at one renewal to point out that I was likely eligible for a permanent residence permit and supplied the list of documents to bring back to apply for that.

I would have preferred the banks be told not to expect a bailout in 1914. Privatize the profits, socialize the losses. It's been a problem for a long time and the body count stretches into the millions.

Its VERY achievable. I've gone through it personally and it sucks just as much as legally immigrating to ANY other country on Earth. I've legally gone through this process in at least 5 countries and the US was the most expensive, but far from the worst.

In other words, completely inaccessible to many people who would like a better life and are willing to work but lack opportunities in their native country.

Just because it was achievable for you doesn't mean it is achievable for everyone.

I find the idea the only immigrants can do low skill labor kinda… obtuse. Maybe Americans should pick their own crops instead of living in a delusion that certain labor is beneath them. Boomer era “all my kids are going to get white collar jobs” type thinking isn’t sustainable.
